Third country imports into Italy drop 20%

The latest figures from Italy, indicate that imports from third countries dropped 19.5% during the first three months of this year compared to the same period in 2001. Analysts remarked that the decrease was partially due to uncertainty in the import/export market. In April, importers had problems importing product for free circulation due to the caution/security system. Insiders say, this means the trend for 2002 may not be clear until the end of this month, when imports are expected to increase significantly.
