Australian miner Territory Resources has announced that it shipped the first iron ore cargo from its Frances Creek project to China via the Port of Darwin on September 30. The shipment consisted of 67,500 mt of high grade iron ore, 2,500 mt higher than the expected figure.

The shipped iron ore consists of Fe 63.47 and 63.26 percent iron ore.

Commenting on the shipment, Territory chairman Mr Michael Kiernan said, "The shipped grades were in line with our expectations, and delivering a consistent product to our Chinese customers is the key to a sustainable project."

Territory expects to ship up to another 200,000 mt of iron ore from Darwin Port to China before the end of 2007. The next shipment of ore is on track to depart from Darwin at the end of this month. The company is railing ore on a daily basis from its Frances Creek Mine to Darwin via the Adelaide-to-Darwin rail line. Darwin is the closest Australian mainland port to China and the rest of Southeast Asia.
