Tata Steel awards BF order to Siemens

Siemens Group Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) has announced that it has received an order from India-based Tata Steel Ltd (Tata Steel) for the supply of engineering and key equipment for a new blast furnace.

The facility in question will be part of the greenfield integrated iron and steel works to be built at Kalinganagar in the eastern Indian state of Orissa. The state-of-the-art furnace will feature a hearth diameter of 13.8 meters and will have an annual production capacity of 3.2 million mt of hot metal. However, the total value of the contract has not been disclosed under the terms of a confidentiality agreement.

In a statement regarding the order, Siemens said, "This Kalinganagar project again underlines the confidence that producers place in Siemens for the supply of proven, efficient, cost-effective and environmentally friendly blast furnace solutions."
