Tata Steel announces robust sales volume in Q1

Major Indian steel producer Tata Iron and Steel Co Ltd. has announced an 17% increase in volume sales for the first quarter ended June 30, 2003. The company also expects a similar increase in income during the quarter. Furthermore, Tata Steel's total sales volume of steel was 910'000 tons for the first quarter ended June 30, 2003 against 780'000 tons in the same period of the last financial year. Company authorities stated that Tata Steel, has reached its highest ever crude steel production level which amounts more than 1'000'000 tons in the first quarter. In addition, the branded products, including Tata Tiscon reinforcing bars, Tata Shakti corrugated galvanized sheets and Tata Steelium cold rolled sheet, recorded a significant growth. Also, the sale of cold rolled sheets for automotive and white goods sectors posted an 64% increase.
