Indian steelmaker Tata Steel has announced that, in the second quarter of the financial year 2011, which ended on September 30, it witnessed a five percent rise year on year in its crude steel output to 1.73 million mt.
Meanwhile, Tata Steel stated that, during the quarter in question, the company's hot metal production rose by six percent to 1.9 million mt, while its saleable steel output amounted to 1.61 million mt, increasing also by six percent, both compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year. Tata Steel said that in the second quarter its crude steel and hot metal production achieved highest-ever quarterly levels.
The company's cumulative steel sales of 1.66 million mt up to the end of the quarter in question indicate growth of 14 percent over the corresponding period of the last fiscal year.
In the first half of the financial year 2011-12, Tata Steel's crude steel output rose seven percent to 3.35 million mt, while its hot metal output also increased by seven percent to 3.72 million mt and its saleable steel output came to 3.2 million mt, up five percent. In the period in question, the company's total sales amounted to 2.88 million metric tons, rising by six percent. All comparisons are with the same period of the previous financial year.
