Tanzania restricts export of scrap metal
Tanzanian Ministry of Industries and Trade recently announced that the government determined to restrict export of all types of scrap metal. The new regulation is effective as of September 4, 2004 until the government reviews it later. The decision of the government is based on disobedience of certain metal dealers, who have cheated the government, claiming that they do not export banned metal products. These dealers have been found to be exporting metal products whose exports were banned by the government back in June 2003. The government restricted export of scrap iron and steel in June 2003 however permitted export of other metals such as lead, copper and zinc. As dealers abused the permission of the government by carrying banned metals in their containers, the government determined to restrict export of all types of scrap metal.Tanzania restricts export of scrap metal
