Germany-based plantmaker SMS Meer announced on September 16 that it has modernized the existing rebar mill of Hmisho Trading Group, Syria with an EBROS® system for endless rolling of sections, leading to a significant increase in the plant capacity. The overall annual production has been increased by no less than five percent as a result of this modernization. The metal yield is improved by 1.5 percent as well.

EBROS is a billet welding system, used to weld together the hot billets as they come out of the furnace. This process makes ‘endless rolling' possible, offering a considerable increase in productivity. At Hmisho, square billets of 130 mm x 130 mm and 12 m in length are welded, based on a yield of 60 mt per hour.

The complete rebar mill at Hmisho was supplied in 2007 by SMS Meer. The annual capacity is 350,000 metric tons.
