Summary of China’s steel imports & exports in November

In November, China's finished steel exports totaled 2.9441 million mt, sharply down 1.1556 million mt or 28.19 percent year on year, totaling a value of $3.896 billion, up $680 million or 21.13 percent compared with the same month last year. In addition, finished steel exports for the January-November period reached 56.0151 million mt, down 1.8951 million or 3.27 percent, amounting to a total value of $59.443 billion, up $19.042 billion or 47.13 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, China's finished steel imports in November totaled 1.0236 million mt, down 325,800 mt or 24.14 percent year on year, totaling $1.766 billion in value, up $38 million or 2.2 percent compared with the same month last year. In addition, finished steel imports for the January-November period reached 14.4592 million mt, down 1.0793 mt or 6.95 percent, amounting to $21.742 billion, up $2.917 billion or 15.5 percent year on year.

In November, the country's net exports of finished steel amounted to 1.9205 million mt, totaling a value of $2.13 billion. The average export price was $1,323.48/mt, up $538.87/mt or 68.68 percent year on year. The average import price was $1,725.28/mt, up $444.71/mt or 34.73 percent year on year. The export price was $401.8/mt or 23.29 percent lower than the import price.

In the January-November period, China's net finished steel exports reached 41.5559 million mt, amounting to a value of $37.701 billion.

The breakdown of China's steel imports and exports in November is as follows:

Rebar exports in November stood at 44,600 mt, down 133,200 mt or 74.94 percent year on year, totaling $37 million in value, down $59 million or 61.35 percent compared with the same month last year. The average export price was $834.02/mt. Total exports in the January-November period reached 1.1339 million mt, down 4.5651 million mt or 80.1 percent, amounting to $913 million, down $1.656 billion or 64.47 percent year on year.

Rebar imports in November stood at 1,400 mt, down 2,000 mt or 58.99 percent year on year, totaling $1 million in value, down $1 million or 31.58 percent compared with the same month last year. The average import price was $994.98/mt. Total January-November rebar imports reached 24,000 mt, down 22,400 mt or 48.2 percent, amounting to a total value of $15 million, down $9 million or 37.68 percent year on year.

China's wire rod exports in November totaled 109,000 mt, down 253,000 mt or 69.88 percent year on year, totaling $90 million in value, down $108 million or 54.44 percent compared with the same period last year. The average export price was $828.75/mt. Total exports in January-November reached 4.923 million mt, down 957,900 mt or 16.29 percent, amounting to $4.282 billion in value, up $1.528 billion or 55.48 percent year on year.

Wire rod imports in November amounted to 38,000 mt, down 5,800 mt or 13.33 percent year on year, totaling a value of $57 million, down $3 million or 4.85 percent compared with the same period last year. The average import price was $1,486.36/mt. Total imports in January-November reached 489,200 mt, down 82,800 mt or 14.48 percent, amounting to $627 million, up $95 million or 17.88 percent year on year.

China's medium plate exports in November reached 339,300 mt, down 366,200 mt or 51.9 percent year on year, totaling $428 million in value, down $87 million or 16.93 percent compared with the same period last year. The average export price was $1,260.39/mt. Total January-November exports reached 7.5274 million mt, down 9,600 mt or 0.13 percent, amounting to a total value of $7.706 billion, up $2.725 billion or 54.71 percent year on year.

Medium plate imports in November stood at 90,600 mt, up 6,700 mt or 7.47 percent year on year, totaling $168 million, up $51 million or 43.33 percent compared with the same month last year. The average import price was $1,748.77/mt. Total January-November medium plate imports came to 1.1673 million mt, up 84,000 mt or 7.76 percent, amounting to $1.908 billion, up $479 million or 33.57 percent year on year.

China's HR coil export volume in November stood at 328,000 mt, down 331,000 mt or 50.22 percent year on year, totaling a value of $341 million, down $79 million or 18.78 percent compared with the same period last year. The average export price was $1,038.58/mt. Total January-November HR coil exports reached 10.2089 million mt, up 1.1526 million mt or 12.73 percent, amounting to $9.243 billion, up $3.638 billion or 64.89 percent year on year.

HR coil imports in November came to 93,300 mt, down 46,500 mt or 33.28 percent year on year, totaling a value of $115 million, down $27 million or 19.08 percent compared with the same period last year. The average HR coil import price was $1,231.92/mt. Total HR coil imports in the January-November period reached 1.6924 million mt, down 429,300 mt or 20.23 percent, amounting to $1.911 billion in value, down $457 million or 19.3 percent year on year.

China's CR coil export volume in November reached 150,000 mt, down 26,000 mt or 14.79 percent year on year, totaling $163 million, down $21 million or 11.58 percent compared with the same period last year. The average CR coil export price was $1,048.04/mt. Total January-November exports for this product reached 3.1848 million mt, up 1.0811 million mt or 51.39 percent, amounting to $3.732 billion, up $1.081 billion or 40.77 percent year on year.

CR coil imports in November stood at 189,500 mt, down 177,700 mt or 48.38 percent year on year, totaling $221 million in value, down $114 million or 33.94 percent compared with the same period last year. The average import price was $1,166.51/mt. Total January-November CR coil imports reached 3.5825 million mt, down 403,900 mt or 10.13 percent, amounting to a value of $3.712 billion, up $251 million or 7.26 percent year on year.
