Operations at the Sparrows Point, Maryland steel mill are expected to restart in May as previously laid-off employees were informed by a letter from the mill's manager that many of them would return to work immediately.

According to the letter, the plant's "L" blast furnace will be restarted in May and the hot strip mill would be prepared for production shortly thereafter.

As SteelOrbis previously reported, Severstal North America sold to the Sparrows Point mill to the Renco Group along with the Wheeling and Warren facilities in early March.
