In September this year, South Korea imported a total of 80,000 mt of hot rolled coils, down 20 percent compared with the previous month.

In the January-September 2008 period, the country's HRC imports hit a peak monthly volume of 157,000 mt in July, before declining to 100,000 mt in August. The sharp decrease in imports is mainly due to the strong price decreases seen as of this summer as well as the severe sluggishness in demand.

South Korea's total HRC imports for the first nine months of the current year reached 924,000 mt, dropping 54.2 percent year on year.
