South Africa’s vehicle sales growth continues
South Africa's new vehicle sales rose 31 percent year on year to 50'044 units in June 2005, based on the data released by the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA). The increase in sales indicates that the upward trend in new vehicle sales continues at full speed. For the first six months of 2005, new vehicle sales achieved a year-on-year increase of 27.9 percent. Passenger cars were the strongest sellers in June, rising 24 percent year on year to 32'123 units. South Africa's new light commercial vehicle sales showed a hefty rise of 48 percent due to improved stock availability. The sales figure reached 15'292 units last month compared to 10'329 units last year. NAAMSA indicates these figures show that fixed investment continues its strong momentum in the transport sector. The industry's outlook for the second half of 2005 remained positive, NAAMSA added.
