German steelmaker Ziehwerk Plettenberg GmbH & Co. KG has placed an order with Germany-based plantmaker SMS Meer for the supply of a new bright steel center.

The new center with core components such as a peeling machine and a straightener is designed for a diameter range from 10 to 54 mm. Ziehwerk Plettenberg produces bright steel in a diameter range from 8 to 80 mm.

SMS Meer has developed a concept for reducing the stresses in the bar for the bright steel center. According to the company statement, the installation combines process steps, namely, peeling, straightening, non-destructive eddy current testing, geometrical testing and end machining.

The new steel center is scheduled to be commissioned in the beginning of 2012.
