Siemens to upgrade process control system in WISCO's hot rolling mill

Linz, Austria-based plantmaker Siemens VAI has announced the receipt of an order from China's third largest steelmaker Wuhan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd (WISCO) for the modernization of the process control technology at its hot rolling mill No. 2.
 
Accordingly, WISCO's process control system will be upgraded to Simatic PCS7 version V7, the associated computer architecture will also be modernized and a new operating system will be installed. The existing plant configuration will be largely retained. The upgrade concept allows for the upgrade of the process control system to be carried out within a period of 10 days in the summer of 2012.
 
WISCO's hot rolling mill No. 2 at Wuhan in Hubei Province was commissioned in 2003 and is equipped with a Siemens automation solution based on the Siroll HM plant concept. The rolling mill has a capacity of about 4.5 million mt per annum. It produces hot rolled strip in a width range of 700-2,130 mm and in a thickness range of 1.6-25.4 mm.
