Giant Austrian-based plantmaker Siemens VAI Mining and Metals Technologies has announced the receipt of an order from Kaluzhsky Scientific Industrial Electrometallurgical Plant, a subsidiary of Russian steel producer Maxi Group, which is a part of Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK) Group, for the supply and installation of a new steelmaking meltshop in Vorsino, Kaluzhskaya Oblast.
The deal, worth in the two-digit million euro range, includes the supply by Siemens VAI of a 120-ton/150-MVA Ultimate-type electric arc furnace (EAF), secondary metallurgical facilities, dedusting systems, an eight-strand billet caster capable of casting billets in square formats of 125-150 mm, as well as hydraulic and electrical systems, water and gas media supply, as well as basic and process automation.
The new meltshop, to be built in Vorsino, located approximately 120 kilometers southwest of Moscow, is in line with Maxi Group's project to develop a network of minimills in regions where there is a high demand for steel and extensive scrap resources, and will allow the plant to produce 1.5 million mt of liquid steel per year. The carbon and alloyed steel grades will be cast as billets and subsequently rolled at the same plant site.
