On October 17, Central China's Shanxi Province published a list of over three hundred enterprises, covering seven industrial sectors such as the steel, coke and chemical sectors, whose out-of-date production capacities are to be eliminated. As a result, harmful industrial emissions such as those of dust and smoke are to be reduced significantly.

Last year Shanxi Province shut down over 600 steelmaking enterprises and 908 outdated facilities. This year, Shanxi Province has continued its moves to eliminate dated production capacities. Of the relevant enterprises, over one hundred operate in the steel industry, accounting for a total combined steel production capacity of 15 million mt which is to be eliminated. In addition, over seventy coke and chemical enterprises representing a total production capacity of 16 million mt are to be put out of action.
