Shandong to eliminate 22.57 million mt of steelmaking capacity in 2011-15

According to China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), by the end of China's 12th five-plan period (2011-2015), Shandong Province will complete elimination of 21.11 million mt of backward or dated iron-making capacities and 22.57 million mt of backward steelmaking production capacities.
 
In the 2009-11 period, Shandong Province had eliminated 13.337 million mt of backward iron-making capacities and 3.343 million mt of backward steelmaking production capacities. Meanwhile, the Shandong authorities have ordered the elimination in 2012 of 700,000 mt of iron-making capacity at Taishan Steel and 400,000 mt of steelmaking capacity at Nanjinzhao Group.
 
In 2013, Shandong will eliminate 3 million mt of iron-making capacities at Rizhao Steel and 5.85 million mt of steelmaking capacities at seven other steel producers in the province.
 
In 2014 and 2015, a further 4.1 million mt of iron-making capacities at Rizhao Steel will be eliminated, while 8.09 million mt of steelmaking production capacities at Jigang, Rizhao Steel and Shiheng Special Steel will be removed
 
During the given five-year period, Qingdao Steel will eliminate 3.6 million mt iron-making capacity and 3.3 million mt of steelmaking capacity, while Laiwu Steel will eliminate 3.5 million mt of iron-making capacity and 4.4 million mt of steelmaking capacity.
