Severstal Wheeling restarted their electric arc furnace at the Steubenville, Ohio plant on Sunday evening, as several hundred workers will return to work this week.

Approximately 800 workers were temporarily laid off last week, while Severstal Wheeling's plants at Steubenville and Mingo Junction were idled, due to the current economic crisis.

"We continue to assess the most cost-efficient way to operate as we balance our production schedule with customer requirements during this period of slower steel product demand," Severstal Wheeling spokesman, Dennis Halpin, told the press.

Severstal Wheeling representatives did not reveal the exact number of workers who are still currently laid off but it is estimated at around 250; with most, if not all, being on a voluntary basis.
