Severstal turns to Europe for ferroalloys
Russian Severstal has turned to European suppliers of ferroalloys to satisfy its needs of the subject materials. According to Igor Nechaev, the Commercial Director of Severstal, the first load of ferroalloys, including 2,800 tons of silicomanganese and 200 tons of ferromanganese, was sent in the address of the company from Norway. The main supplier of ferroalloys to Severstal will be French company Eramet. According to Mr. Nechaev, Severstal started to search for new suppliers of ferroalloys after its traditional suppliers from Ukraine raised the price of silicomanganese by 21 percent in April of 2006. As a result, the choice was made in the favor of Eramet, the ferroalloys of which practically do not need to be re-processed. Severstal estimates that the contracted volumes would be enough to satisfy the quarterly needs of the company in ferroalloys.
