Severstal North America, a division of Russian steelmaker Severstal, announced on September 14 that it will extend the idling of its primary operations at its Wheeling and Sparrows Point plants through the fourth quarter of 2010.
The company said that its steelmaking operations at both facilities will remain idle until there is an improvement in market conditions to warrant their restart.
The finishing operations at both facilities will continue to run on reduced schedules. The tin mill operations will continue providing customers with uninterrupted service, with substrate provided from inventory and other Severstal North America facilities.
