Germany-based plantmaker SMS Group has announced that it has received the final acceptance certificate from Russian steelmaker Severstal for its comprehensively modernized tandem cold rolling mill 2100 at the Cherepovets facility in northwest Russia

According to SMS, the revamp was completed in an exceptionally short time and, as a result of the modernization, the rolling mill 2100 is now fit to satisfy future growing customer requirements for high-grade carbon steels, and also for high-strength and micro-alloyed silicon steels. In addition, through this revamping project, Severstal has increased its overall capacity by 200,000 mt to 1.3 million mt, which is the result of a rise in plant availability.
