Seminar to unite Northeast Asian steelmakers

POSCO Research Institute and Korea Steel Association are initiating a seminar for uniting the Northeast Asia steelmakers. The intention is to form a common steel organisation in the region. The existing bilateral steel consultations are intended to be expanded and upgraded into a Northeast Asia steel association. The future plans include extending the integration to cover the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in long term as well, although initially limited to bilateral and regional agreements. Southeast Asia steel body is planned to include Japan, China and South Korea aiming to lead to a compromise among the steelmakers of these countries. It is believed that such collaboration in terms of lowering trade barriers would help developing the markets and economies in the region.
