SAIL and Essar Steel request AD investigation on HR steel imports

According to recent news in the market, two Indian steel producers Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) and Essar Steel have submitted a petition to Delhi High Court for an anti-dumping to be initiated for imports of hot rolled steel from Australia, South Africa, European Union and a few other countries, claiming that the imports from these countries cause material injury. The other producers of subject merchandise, Tata Iron and Steel Corp (TISCO), Ispat and JVSL did not become the parties to the petition. The Department of Commerce had previously rejected the application of the two steel producers claiming that the producers are in fact protected by floor price mechanism and customs duty. In response to the Department's rejection, SAIL and Essar filed the petition to Delhi High Court stating that the decision is illegal. Delhi High Court is reported to have admitted the petition to evaluate.
