Russia’s steel exports down 7.6 percent in January-April

In the January-April period this year, Russia’s steel exports decreased by 7.6 percent year on year to 8.85 million mt, according to the official customs data. In particular, in the given period Russia exported 4.921 million mt of semi-finished steel products and 2.077 mt of flats, down seven percent and 11.9 percent respectively, both year on year. In April alone, Russia’s exports totaled 2.111 million mt of steel, 1.157 million mt of which consisted of billets and slabs and 537,100 mt of flats, respectively.

As for pig iron exports, although in April Russia increased its shipments abroad by 24.2 percent month on month to 343,200 mt, its total exports of 910,200 mt in the January-April period this year were still 37.4 percent lower compared to the same period in the previous year. In the meantime, Russia’s ferroalloys exports decreased by 9.8 percent year on year to 118,000 mt in the January-April period this year, SteelOrbis has learned.
