Russian scrap consumption ups in July

According to statistical data, scrap consumption in Russia rose 60 percent year on year to 2.1 million metric tons in July 2006. Ural Federal Region, Siberian Federal Region and North-West Federal Region, the regions where the biggest Russian steel mills are located, showed the largest rates of increases in scrap consumption. On the other hand, volumes of scrap collected in the country started to regain last year's levels, showing only 3.2 percent decrease year on year in July of 2006.
