In the first ten months of 2008, Russia registered a 2.5 percent increase in its crude steel production year on year to 61.7 million metric tons.
During the period in question, Russia produced 43.7 million metric tons of pig iron - up 1.9 percent, 43.5 million metric tons of semi-finished products - up 2.2 percent, 29.1 million metric tons of long products - up 5.3 percent, and 20.9 million metric tons of flat rolled products - down 0.9 percent, all compared to January-October 2007. The above flat rolled production figure includes 6.9 million metric tons of cold rolled - up 2.3 percent, and 14 million metric tons of hot rolled - down 2.4 percent, both compared with the same period last year.
