According to the data released by the Russian Federation's Federal State Statistics Service, in the first three months of 2008 the country registered a 4.8 percent rise in coal mining output and a 3.7 percent rise in iron ore mining output year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 85.2 million and 26.3 million.
In addition, during the same period Russia produced 8.7 million metric tons of coke - up 5.1 percent, 16 million metric tons of finished steel products - up 7.2 percent, and two million metric tons of steel pipes - down 7.1 percent, all compared to January-March 2007.
