According to the data released by the Russian Federation's Federal State Statistics Service, in 2006 the country registered a 3.6 percent rise in coal mining output and a 7.3 percent rise in
iron ore mining output year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 309 million and 102 million.

Russia produced 32.7 million metric tons of coke - up three percent, 58.2 million metric tons of finished steel products - up 6.5 percent and 7.9 million metric tons of steel pipes - up 17.7 percent, compared to the same period of last year.
