According to the data released by the Russian Federation's Federal Customs Service, in 2006
Russia exported 28.45 million metric tons of ferrous metals (excluding
pig iron, ferroalloys and
scrap) – down 4.1 percent, 5.94 million metric tons of
pig iron – up 15.8 percent, 720,100 metric tons of ferroalloys – down 11.5 percent, 14.5 million metric tons of semi-finished steel products – up 4.3 percent, 8.88 million metric tons of flat rolled products – down 14.4 percent, 22.84 million metric tons of
iron ore and concentrate – up 26 percent, and 1.79 million metric tons of coke and semi-coke – down 37 percent, all compared to 2005.
During the period in question,
Russia increased its ferrous metal imports (excluding
pig iron, ferroalloys and
scrap) by 21 percent and its steel
pipe imports by 36 percent year on year to 4.5 million metric tons and 1.4 million metric tons respectively.
