Raw steel production in the US falls 2.4 percent

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Monday that US raw steel production decreased by 2.4 percent last week (ended September 29), following a 0.4 percent increase a week ago and a 0.3 percent increase the week prior.

Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,780,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 2.4 percent drop from the 1,824,000 nt produced in the previous week and a 4.3 percent decrease from the 1,860,000 nt produced in the same week a year ago.

The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 72 percent in the week ending September 29, compared to 73.8 percent in the previous week and 76.1 percent in the same week last year.
