Austria-based plantmaker Siemens VAI announced on July 26 that has received an order from Posco Specialty Steel Co. Ltd., special steel producer subsidiary of South Korean steel giant POSCO, to modernize the long steel product rolling mill in its Changwon Works. Siemens VAI said that the order is worth more than €10 million, and the modernization is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2011.
Within the scope of the modernization project, Siemens is supplying a reversible, single-stand breakdown mill with a roll diameter of 1,200 millimeters, as well as the secondary plant equipment.
The breakdown mill is designed to turn out 365,000 metric tons per annum and can produce a wide range of long steel products, including steel bars with diameters ranging from 90 to 350 mm, slabs with cross-sections of 200 by 1,250 mm, and flat steel products ranging in thickness from 28 to 280 mm and in width from 750 to 1,250 mm.
