Poland undecided on imposing tariffs

Poland has not yet decided whether to impose quotas on its steel imports. Poland's Economy Minister announced on April 10, that Poland could apply similar tariffs to the ones imposed by the EU. The economy ministry is also considering higher import duties as well. Steel imports may also be restricted if foreign producers try to sell their surplus steel in Poland. Plans are underway to monitor the situation for two months. Poland's steel imports in 2001 were 3.1 million tons while Polish exports were 3.9 million tons. Raw steel output was 8.8 million tons for 2001 compared to 10.5 million tons in 2000.
