A Peruvian labor authority demanded Aceros Arequipa, one of the country’s largest steelmakers, to resume activities at its Arequipa mill, whose operations were provisionally halted in July due to the “unfair competition generated by the imports of sections from China at dumped prices,” as previously reported by SteelOrbis. Aceros Arequipa announced in late November it would permanently shut down the mill.
According to Arequipa’s labor authority GRTPE, the steelmaker’s claims to shutdown the mill are “unfounded.” GRTPE issued a similar resolution in September, but Aceros Arequipa appealed it.
Now, for the second time, GRTPE said the steelmaker’s claims are unfounded and demanded the company pay its workers for the time they didn’t receive their wages, as they were dismissed.
It also said Aceros Arequipa should immediately have its Arequipa’s mill workers get back to work.
