Pakistan’s scrap imports up 14.2 percent in January

Pakistan's iron and steel scrap imports amounted to 147,862 mt in January this year, decreasing 3.5 percent compared to December last year and up 14.2 percent year on year, according to data released by the Pakistan Federal Bureau of Statistics (PFBS). The value of the iron and steel scrap imports was $51.1 million in January, falling six percent compared to December last year and up 23.45 percent compared to the same month of 2011.

Pakistan's scrap imports in the July 2011-January 2012 period amounted to 940,849 mt, falling 2.2 percent compared to the same period last year. In the period in question, the value of Pakistan's iron and steel scrap imports was $327 million, rising two percent year on year.

Meanwhile, Pakistan's iron and steel imports in January amounted to 147,862 mt, increasing by 12.8 percent on year-on-year basis and up 21.4 percent compared to the previous month. The country's iron and steel imports in the July 2011-January 2012 period totaled 951,803 mt, increasing 3.3 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
