In April this year, the unemployment rate of the 34 Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) member countries fell by 0.1 percentage point to 5.3 percent, following two consecutive months of stability, according to new figures published by the OECD. The number of unemployed in the OECD region in April was 33.9 million people, 15.2 million less than the January 2013 peak.
In April, the unemployment rate for the euro area was at 8.5 percent, decreasing 0.1 percentage point month on month. In the given month, the unemployment rate remained unchanged in Canada at 5.8 percent and in Japan at 2.5 percent. The unemployment rate decreased by 0.2 percentage points in the US to 3.9 percent and in South Korea to 3.8 percent, while increasing by 0.3 percentage points in Denmark to 5.2 percent and in Israel to 3.9 percent and by 0.2 percentage points in Mexico to 3.4 percent, all compared to March.
