NUMSA plans to finish Iscor strike

According to latest industry reports, National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) considers to suspend the strike at South Africa's Iscor after the discussion held on June 12, 2003. NUMSA officials are initially discussing the matter with union members of the company's three plants Vanderbiljpark, Newcastle and Saldanha and will then decide whether to suspend the strike going on for 18 days now. The details of the discussion has not been clarified by the parties, except the union's dropping its back pay demand. NUMSA has withdrawn its request for back pay to solve this strike. The company states that as the back pay request is dropped, they will now able to solve the problems that NUMSA members are facing.
