S. African iron and steel output down 2.2% in July from June

According to the preliminary data released by Statistics South Africa, in July this year the country's manufacturing output grew by 5.8 percent compared to the same month of 2011, while the seasonally adjusted manufacturing production is estimated to have decreased by 1.1 percent compared to June.

In South Africa, the seasonally adjusted production of basic iron and steel products in July decreased by 2.2 percent compared to June, while the actual production index of basic iron and steel products saw a decrease of three percent year on year.

For basic iron and steel products, the estimated seasonally adjusted sales of manufactured products (at current prices) in July this year decreased by 1.5 percent compared to June and were up 15.8 percent year on year, amounting to ZAR 7.6 billion ($909 million).
