Nucor commissions Jewett mini-mill

According to recent news in the market, Charlotte, US-based steel producer Nucor has commissioned its new mini mill in Jewett, Texas. The 1 million ton per year plant consists of a 100-t electric furnace, a twin-station ladle furnace and 4/5 strand continuous billet caster. The new plant will produce billets and blooms in steel grades ranging from low to medium carbon. Swiss-based company Concast, which installed the plant, stated that caster has been designed to produce special steel grades, adding that the fifth strand may be installed.
