The Russian steelmaker Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK) has announced the signing of a contract with LLC ESK Soyuz for the construction of a new 150 MW power plant at its main production facility in Lipetsk.

The construction of the new power plant will allow NLMK to increase its self-sufficiency in power supplies to 66 percent. At the same time, blast furnace gas, a by-product of the main metallurgical production process, will be used for power generation.

The power plant is expected to come into operation in 2011.
