The Russian steel producer Novolipetsk Steel has started up its reheating furnace No. 4 used for heating slabs before rolling.

The furnace with a capacity of 320 metric tons of slabs per hour was started up after the completion of reconstruction.

The reconstruction of the furnace will allow NLMK to reduce its energy consumption by 50 percent and decrease its environmental impact by 30 percent. In addition, the furnace is able to process both carbon and grain-oriented steel production.

The reconstruction of the furnace was implemented in the framework of the second phase of NLMK's Technical Upgrading Program and cost the company over Ruble 1.5 billion ($60.1 million).
