An article which appeared late last week in one of Turkey's main national newspapers discussed Russian steelmaker Novolipetsk's (NLMK) plans for a new investment in Turkey.
Two high level NLMK officials recently visited the Filyos area in Turkey's western Black Sea province of Zonguldak for exploratory purposes, triggering the news article and subsequent speculation and rumors in steel circles.
SteelOrbis understands the visit was the result of an application for permission filed three months ago by the Russian steelmaker to explore areas in Turkey which had potential for investment. The permission in question was recently granted and the visit was then made. That said, it is known for a fact in steel circles that NLMK has been carrying on discussions with certain Turkish investor groups in relation to possible investment partnerships. The Russian steelmaker is widely expected to reach an agreement with a Turkish partner regarding a new investment in the near future.
SteelOrbis also requested comments from NLMK headquarters on the issue; however, NLMK officials declined to make any comment at this current juncture.
