New orders in German building construction fall in October

As reported by the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the total price-adjusted value of orders received by building construction and civil and underground engineering enterprises in Germany decreased by six percent in October this year from the same month of the previous year.

In October, building construction demand increased by 4.9 percent, while demand in civil and underground engineering was down by 17 percent, both on year-on-year basis. The total turnover in building construction amounted in October 2011 to around €9 billion, increasing by around 2.7 percent compared to October 2010.

Meanwhile, in the first 10 months of 2011 the total price-adjusted value of orders in the construction industry increased by 2.9 percent over the corresponding period last year. During the January-October period of 2011, the total turnover of the German construction industry amounted to approximately €74.2 billion, with an increase of 11.4 percent over the first 10 months of 2010.
