MMZ resumes exports

Moldavian Metallurgical Plant (MMZ), the Transnistrian region's (Prednistrovie) biggest industrial enterprise, has resumed exports after two and a half months of break, but only to the CIS states. This became possible after the plant registered, although temporarily, with the State Registration Chamber of Moldova. The registration allowed MMZ to run exports and imports under the free trade regime with the CIS member states. MMZ would be able to trade with other states and enjoy the benefits of preferences provided to Moldova by the EU only after permanent registration. MMZ suspended exports after the economic blockade was imposed on the region. The plant exports over 90 percent of its products and accounts for 30 percent of the Transnistrian region's budget.
