Mittal bid for Arcelor gets US antitrust approval

US antitrust authorities approved Mittal Steel's plan to purchase Luxembourg-based steelmaker Arcelor after requiring Mittal to sell some North American assets. The US Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that it would not oppose the merger deal between Mittal and Arcelor on the condition that Mittal divests either Arcelor's recently acquired Canadian unit Dofasco or one of three North American tin mills that will be owned by the combined company.
