The Russian investment holding MirInvest, which represents the interests of Russian steel producer ESTAR Holding and of Russian businessman Mr. Vadim Varshavsky, has confirmed to SteelOrbis its acquisition of UK-based mini-mill Alphasteel.

MerInvest has acquired the mill following the tender which was completed a few days ago.

Till recently, Alphasteel had been one of the UK's largest steel producers, with an annual production capacity of two million mt of flat and long products.  However, due to financial problems the mill was transferred under the control of British company Begbies Traynor in December last year.
