MIIT reviews backward capacity elimination in Chinese steel industry

Luo Tiejun, deputy minister of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), has stated that, in the standardization of the domestic steel industry through the elimination of backward steel production capacities, since July this year the MIIT has reviewed 60 domestic steel enterprises in 20 provinces in China and has so far granted approval to 36 domestic steel enterprises.

Mr. Luo said that currently around 400 million mt of steel production capacity still needs to be examined and approved by the central government, accounting for 55.7 percent of total national steel production capacity.
