Apparent rebar consumption in Mexico increased 28.7 percent, year-over-year, in February to 359,000 metric tons (mt). This increase meant 80,000 mt, the equivalent of 5.7 days of production, according to data from the Mexican Chamber of the Iron and Steel Industry (Canacero) reviewed by SteelOrbis.

In February, rebar production totaled 396,000 mt, 16.8 percent more than in the second month of last year.

Statistical data for February show that rebar is the main finished steel product manufactured and consumed in Mexico, and one of the few steel products in which production exceeds consumption, according to Canacero.
