Mexican HRC consumption and production rise in March

Apparent consumption of hot rolled coils (HRC) in Mexico increased 19.6 percent, year-over-year, in March to 445,000 metric tons (mt) and production increased 12.3 percent to 346,000 mt, according to data from the Mexican Chamber of the Iron and Steel Industry (Canacero) reviewed by SteelOrbis.

The increase in consumption was equivalent to 6.5 days of national production in the third month of the year.

HRC trade flow decreased 12.9 percent to 135,000 mt in March, attributed to the contraction of 60.0 percent in exports of HRC to 18,000 mt. In contrast, HRC imports increased 6.4 percent to 117,000 mt.

According to Canacero, in Mexico the HRC producers are Altos Hornos de México (AHMSA), TA 2000 (TYASA), Ternium and ArcelorMittal.
