Finland-based global engineering and technology company Metso Corporation has announced that it has started discussions with personnel regarding the layoff of a total of 65 people at its Sweden-based Mining and Construction Technology units in Ersmark, Trelleborg and Gällivare, due to the weakening of the global market situation which has led to the reduction of the workload in production and customer projects.

The layoffs will commence in January 2009 at the earliest.

Metso's Mining and Construction Technology units in Ersmark and Trelleborg are specialized in wear products and spare parts, with related expert services mainly for mining and industrial minerals customers; meanwhile, its unit in Gällivare is focused on mining sales and services. The units employ a combined total of 722 persons.
