Italian plantmaker Danieli has announced that it has signed a cooperation agreement with Singapore-based steelmaker Meranti Steel aiming to develop a modern DRI-based plant in Thailand to produce green steel.

Meranti’s new plant, which will use renewable energy solutions including solar and wind energy, and hydrogen, will feature an Energiron direct reduction technology; a Danieli Digimelter melting unit; and a Danieli QSP-DUE thin-slab casting and rolling line for full flexibility in terms of strip width, thickness, and steel grades.

The green steel plant will strengthen Thailand’s domestic steel production.
