Mechel installs shearing press at Targoviste plant
The Russian steel producer Mechel has announced the installation and commissioning of a new shearing press in the electric arc furnace workshop at its Romania-based subsidiary Mechel Targoviste. The new shearing press was installed in compliance with Mechel Targoviste's technical re-equipment plan, and is designed to process oversized scrap and provide steel melting works with high quality charge. Depending on the scrap used for processing, the new shearing press's production capacity ranges from 15 to 22 metric tons per hour with a cutting force of 700 metric tons. The press worth €10 million was supplied by the Italian company SIERRA. The commissioning of the new press, along with the installation of a new continuous caster and the modernization of the plant, will allow Mechel Targoviste to increase its scrap density with concurrent reduction of scrap return.
